Together for human rights: Födelsedag och lektioner / Birthday and lessons

I morse ställde vi klockan tidigt och väckte Paula som fyller år i dag med sång. Efter att ha sjungit "Ja må hon leva" och ännu en god frukost bar det av till skolan. I dag skulle vi, Frida, Charlotta och Viktoria få vara med på lektioner igen i två olika klasser. Maria och Paula planerade att intervjua och filma elever om barns rättigheter.

This morning we put on the alarm earlier than usual as it is Paulas birthday. After singing "Happy birthday" and one more lovely breakfast we went to school. Today Frida, Charlotta and Viktoria had on the program to go to two lessons in two classes. Maria and Paula planned to make interwieves and films with pupils about the childrens rights.

Frida, Charlotta och vår chaufför Gift

Charlotta och Frida var med i trean där teacher Mary hade en lektion i Social studies. Temat för lektionen var vad vi använder träd till. Eleverna fick komma med förslag på vad träd kan vara bra för och användas till. Mary var engagerad och inspirerande och lät alla elever komma till tals. Eleverna var också engagerade och vågade komma med idéer och blev uppmuntrade för sina tankar. Ibland fick någon en uppmuntrande applåd i form av en klapp när hon/han hade kommit med en bra tanke. Mary fick också eleverna att tänka efter när hon sa ett påstående som inte stämde, för att sedan låta eleverna rätta henne. Under lektionen fick eleverna också upprepa vissa begrepp och ord för att befästa kunskapen. Mary försäkrade sig också ofta om att eleverna hängde med genom att ställa frågor. Lektionen utgick från elevernas erfarenhet och byggde på ett samspel mellan eleverna och teacher Mary. Det var en fantastisk lektion med fantastisk didaktik.

Charlotta and Frida went to a lesson in class 3 where teacher Mary had a lesson in social studies. The theme for the lesson was what trees and wood are used for.The pupils told their thoughts about what trees can be used for. Mary was very dedicated and inspired the pupils to give their suggests. She also inspired all the pupils to talk. The pupils where also dedicated and said their ideas and was encouraged for their thoughts. Sometimes they also got an encouraging applause when they had given a good thought. Sometime Mary said something that wasn't right to next second ask the pupils to give the right answear. During the lesson the pupils said some words and concepts some times to confirm the new knowledge. Several times Mary asked questions to secure that the pupils understood. The lessons base was the knowledge the pupils had and was based on interaction between the pupils and Mary. A fantastic lesson with fantastic didatics!

Viktoria fick chansen att vara med Lucy då hon undervisade Swahili i åttan. Tanken med lektionen var att lära eleverna den sista biten inom språket som behövs för att kunna skriva de nationella proven som bara ligger 13 dagar bort. I dag handlade det om kläder och mat. Lucy var mycket duktig på att illustrera för eleverna de nya orden. Det var en öppen stämning i klassrummet och eleverna var mycket aktiva, utan att det blev för rörigt. I slutet av lektionen förklarade Lucy vikten av att kunna tänka kritiskt. Hon tog Facebook som ett exempel där hon vet att eleverna är positivt inställda och bad då Viktoria att framför några negativa aspekter som Facebook för med sig. Detta ledde till en intressant diskussion och eleverna fick sedan egen tid till att skriva ner sina tankar och diskutera med varandra. Under denna tiden lämnade Lucy klassrummet då hon tyckte att eleverna lärde sig mer av varandra utan att hon var med och styrde diskussionen. Efter ca 20 minuter gick hon tillbaka till klassen för att höra vad de kommit fram till. Det var en väldigt intressant lektion efterom elevernas tankar verkligen togs på allvar och diskussionen blev mycket bra.

Viktoria got the chance to be with Lucy during a Kiswahili lesson in class eight. The thought of the lesson was to teach the pupils the last part of the language to be able to write the national exams november 12th - 15th. Today the lesson was about clothes and food. Lucy was very good at illustrating the new words fir the pupils. It was an open classroom and the pupils where very active in their learning, but it wasn't messy at all. In the end of the lesson Lucy explained the value of critical thinking. Facebook was her exampel, as she know that the pupils are positive to that. Viktoria also was asked to tell some of the negative aspects of Facebook. That lead to an interesting discussion and the pupils after that got time to write their thoughts and to discuss it with eachother. During the discussion part of the lesson lucy left the classroom as she told that the pupils learn better of eachother without her leading the discussion. After some minutes she went back to the lession and the class summarizided their thoughts. It was a very interesting lesson as the pupils thoughts really was taken seriosly and the discussion became very good.

Filmningen av elever som berättade om Barnkonventionens olika artiklar gick bra. Eleverna filmades också när de berättade om egna exempel på deras upplevelser kopplade till de olika artiklarna. De berättade vilka deras favoritlekar och favoritsporter är, vad de vill bli när de blir stora (doktor, ingenjör, lärare, optiker osv), om när de känt sig orättvist behandlade, om deras framtidsvisioner osv. Många kloka tankar blev filmade och ska användas i våra musikaler i februari i Kenya och i Sverige.

The filming of the pupils as told about the Childrens convention and the different articles went well. The pupils also where filmed when they told about examples of their own experiences of what the articles tell about. They told what their favoritegames and favoritesports are, what they want to work with when they grow up (doctor, engineer, teacher, optician etc), if they felt unfair treated, about their visions for the future etc. A lot of wise thoughts where filmed and those will be used in our musicals in february in Kenya and Sweden.

På eftermiddagen hade vi "fika" med tårta för att fira Paula, våra kollegor från skolan var också med.

In the afternoon we had "fika" with birthdaycake to celebrate Paulas birthday, our collegues from the school also joined us.
